Art of Cancelling Credit Protector from your Credit Card

Today I finally took the time to call Credit Protector to cancel it. For those that doesn't know what Credit Protector is, it's a fee charged on your account that is a percentage of your total statement bill amount. It is like an insurance that protects your credit from job lost, or other financial problem.

I got a mail from Credit Protector saying that they're going to increase the fee to $1.09 for every $100 you spend. That is 1.09%. Did anyone ever notice that the number to call Credit Protector is very hard to find? This letter included this line, "If you wish to discontinue this protection, or have any questions, please call 888-592-7344". There it is if anyone needs it.

When you call in there will be an automatic voice system that will handle some inquiries you might have. There was a voice menu that says, "If you want to cancel your Credit Protector press 3". So I press 3 thinking this is a piece of cake. I was expecting something to say, "Credit Protector successfully cancelled.", but what happen is it transfers me and agent, which put me on hold for around two or three minutes depending on what time of day you call them. When I finally got a representative talking to me, I told them I want to cancel my Credit Protector. After this, they will always bust out their script, but they don't tell you that. There is actually three to four conditions that you'll have to go through before they will cancel you Credit Protector.


This is suppose to be how a consumer feels like trying to cancel their Credit Protector

ME: I want to cancel my Credit Protector please. (took 5 secs)

REP: (Talks about all the financial problems that I might have and how Credit Protector can protect me during those crisis that took like 3 minutes and then)

ME: It's OK I still want to cancel it. (took 5 secs)

REP: I appreciate your decision. We have another plan that is cheaper you would be interested in...blah blah blah. Let's go ahead and sign you up for the $0.49 for every $100 spent plan.

ME: It's OK I still want to cancel. (this took another 3-4 minutes)

REP: I certainly do appreciate your decision. We can give you a $50 gift certificate included with the $0.49 plan for every $100. (and then blah blah blah). Let's go ahead and sign you up for that. You can cancel any time when ever you are not interested. (Don't give up keep your cool) ( this took another 3-4 minutes)

ME: No Thanks, I still don't want it please cancel my Credit Protector.

REP: Your Credit Protector is pending for cancel. Please know that it might take up to 3 days for your Credit Protector to actually cancel. Have a great day. (took about 10 secs)

ME: Thanks you have a great day too. (took 5 secs)

Why is it so hard to cancel a Credit Protector?
That is what they are train to do. The company wants to keep their customers so they make it very difficult for consumers like us to cancel it. Getting mad at the employee is useless because they're just doing their job. If you really want to cancel it you should be patient and keep your cool.

that's exactly what i did. the woman told me that it will be canceled. But she lied!! it's still there and it charged me interest!!!

She probably messed up something. Gotta keep trying if you don't want to pay the monthly fee.
